Proximal Phalanx

What is the Proximal Phalanx A proximal phalanx (plural: phalanges) is one of the tubular long bones [11] located in the bottom row of the phalanges or finger bones [1]. Each proximal phalanx has a head, a body/shaft, and a base.

Fifth Metacarpal

What is the Fifth Metacarpal The fifth metacarpal (5th metacarpal) is the palm bone associated with the fifth digit or little finger in the human hand [1]. Like the other metacarpals, it has a head, shaft/body, and base, contributing to the formation and functioning of the palm [2].

Fourth Metacarpal

What is the Fourth Metacarpal Bone It is the metacarpal associated with the ring finger, shaping the palm, and allowing proper use of the hand [1]. It is divided into a head and a base, joined by the long shaft or body [2].

Third Metacarpal

What is the Third Metacarpal Bone The third metacarpal (3rd metacarpal) is the bone associated with the middle finger, forming the palm of the human hand along with the other four metacarpals [1]. It is the second longest metacarpal [7], and like the others, has a head, body or shaft, and base [2].

Second Metacarpal

What is the Second Metacarpal Bone The second metacarpal (2nd metacarpal) is the long bone associated with the index finger, forming the human palm along with the other four metacarpals [1]. It is the longest of the metacarpals [7], divided into a head, shaft/body, and a base [2].

First Metacarpal

What is the First Metacarpal Bone The first metacarpal (1st Metacarpal) is the metacarpal or palm bone associated with the thumb and is the shortest, and most mobile of all the five metacarpal bones [1].

Capitate Bone

What is the Capitate Bone The capitate (Latin: Os capitatum) is one of the eight carpal or wrist bones in the human hand [1]. It is classified as a short bone [2] and is the largest of all the carpal bones [3].

Trapezoid Bone

What is the Trapezoid Bone The trapezoid (Latin: os trapezoideum [1]) is one of the eight carpal bones in the human hand [2]. It is classified as a short bone [3], and is also known as the lesser multangular. The bone resembles a four-sided table in the geometrical shape of a trapezoid, with its dorsal […]
